Friendships with females are great! Mainly because females tend to be more social and community focused, collaborative, less competitive, and need other girl friends, according to psychologist and author, Shelley E. Taylor. As a woman, I also feel that we are less abashed about expressing our emotions and have no qualms showing care and concern. We certainly cherish our friendships.

I can always count on my girlfriends for company as well as emotional and spiritual encouragement. At times when I need to de-stress by overeating at the chocolate buffet, go for jogs together in an attempt to lose those offending pounds, or simply sit and laugh over silly things that happened the past week, I can always find one who will gladly do it with me. If one friend is on a diet and feeling miserable, the other will order a low fat yogurt to share although what she really wants is a calorie laden triple caramel ice cream.

Life will be more comforting when you know there is someone beside you, who believes in you, who loves you with all your imperfections, who will cry with you when you are facing marriage or relationship problems, or go for retail therapy with you when all else fails. Christian girl friends can also provide good perspectives and advice to keep us accountable in our relationship with God.

Jesus said, “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you” (John 15:12-14).

So pick up that phone today and call or text your girl friends to say how much you love and appreciate them!
